Fertility and Mortality

Last updated at 3/10/2026

The dataset Fertility and Mortality provides key demographic indicators for regional analyses and enables reliable comparisons at the level of district and postal code. It includes the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) as the average number of children per woman, the number of live births per 1000 inhabitants, the birth rate of mothers aged 15 to under 20 per 1000 women in this age group, and the birth rate of mothers aged 40 and over per 1000 women aged 40 to under 45. Additionally, it contains the number of deaths per 1000 inhabitants, the natural balance per 1000 inhabitants as the difference between births and deaths, and infant mortality as the proportion of deaths under one year per 1000 children under one year. All indicators are standardized to clearly defined reference sizes, thereby supporting consistent comparability between regions and time points, provided corresponding time statuses are available. The fine-grained availability at the postal code level is suitable for small-scale population analyses, health and care planning, site assessments, and monitoring of demographic developments, while aggregation at the district level enables robust reports and strategic assessments.
