The dataset "Bevölkerungswanderungen" provides standardized metrics on internal and external migration at the district level and for postal code areas. It includes rates per 1,000 inhabitants for the total external migration balance, as well as separated by women and men. For internal migration, balances are shown overall and by gender, as well as differentiated by age, including groups under 18 years, 18 to under 25 years, 25 to under 30 years, 30 to under 50 years, and 65 years and older, with separate data for female and male residents in the age classes 18 to under 25 years and 25 to under 30 years. Additionally, internal migration volumes per 1,000 inhabitants overall and by gender are available. Movements are detailed by arrivals and departures per 1,000 inhabitants, also for women and men. Arrivals refer to relocations into the area, departures to relocations out of the area. The total migration balance per 1,000 inhabitants combines internal and external migration and allows for a quick assessment of net migration. Positive balances indicate migration gains, negative values correspond to migration losses. The representation as rates per 1,000 inhabitants enables reliable comparisons between differently sized areas, genders, and age groups across districts and postal code areas. The dataset is suitable for analyses of population development, assessment of location attractiveness, and planning in the areas of housing, education, transportation, and labor market.
