Road Traffic Accidents

Last updated at 3/10/2026

The dataset Road Traffic Accidents contains standardized indicators for traffic safety and allows reliable regional comparisons. Three metrics per 100,000 inhabitants are depicted, namely fatalities in road traffic, total road traffic accidents, and casualties in road traffic. The normalization per 100,000 inhabitants increases comparability between areas with different population sizes and facilitates the assessment of risks. The data is available at a small scale for municipalities and postal codes, supporting analyses at the local level. They can be used to identify hotspots of accident frequency, observe developments, and evaluate the impact of traffic safety measures. The metric for fatalities records deaths relative to the resident population, the indication for total road traffic accidents reflects the total number of registered accidents, and the metric for casualties includes all persons injured or killed in traffic. Overall, the dataset provides a fact-based foundation for monitoring, benchmarking, and planning preventive interventions in road traffic.
