The Medical Care dataset provides a comprehensive inventory of regional healthcare infrastructure and supply density at the municipal and postal code level. It combines structural features with indicators of spatial accessibility, enabling detailed analyses of outpatient and inpatient care. It records the number of general practitioners, family doctors, and internists per 10,000 inhabitants, as well as pediatricians per 10,000 children up to 15 years old. Additionally, the dataset includes the total number of hospital beds and hospital beds per 1,000 inhabitants, the number of doctors per 10,000 inhabitants, the ratio of inhabitants per doctor, and the number of pharmacies. An accessibility indicator shows the percentage of the population that must travel a maximum of 1,000 meters to the nearest pharmacy. Besides outpatient metrics, the dataset depicts inpatient emergency care, including the total number of hospitals and participation in general inpatient emergency care with levels 1 Basic Emergency Care, 2 Advanced Emergency Care, and 3 Comprehensive Emergency Care. Hospitals not participating are designated as level 0. Furthermore, modules of specialized inpatient emergency care are depicted, including children, stroke, severely injured, specialized care, and acute heart conditions. As another component of the care landscape, the number of nursing homes is included.
