Economic and Labor Market Function

Last updated at 3/10/2026

The dataset "Economic and Labor Market Function" describes the structure and interconnections of employment and the labor market in small areas. It contains key figures on the unemployment rate relative to people of working age, as well as the ratio of employees subject to social insurance contributions at the workplace to those at the place of residence. Covered are both relative densities, such as employees at the workplace per 1000 inhabitants and employees at the place of residence per 1000 inhabitants, as well as the commuter balance per 100 employees subject to social insurance contributions at the workplace. These metrics are supplemented by absolute values for the number of employees at the workplace and place of residence, as well as the number of outbound commuters, internal commuters, and inbound commuters. The data is available at the municipal and postal code level and serves to classify regional labor market structures, analyze commuter flows, and assess the economic function of locations as residential and work sites.
