Earnings and Private Debts

Last updated at 3/10/2026

The dataset Earnings and Private Debts provides a regionally detailed overview of income, working hours, and private over-indebtedness in Germany. It includes the percentage of former self-employed individuals in insolvency proceedings of other debtors, the working hours performed by employees, as well as the monthly gross earnings of employees overall and in the manufacturing industry in euros. Additionally, it contains indicators of private debt, including private debtors per 100 inhabitants aged 18 and over in percent, consumer insolvency proceedings per thousand inhabitants aged 18 and over, and the average expected amount of creditor claims in euros. The data is available at a fine spatial level for districts and postal code areas, enabling reliable regional comparisons of earnings levels, work burden, and over-indebtedness risks. The dataset is suitable for market and location analyses, social and economic research, as well as for municipal planning, by making spatially differentiated connections between employment, income, and private insolvency visible.
